The proposed host for the evening will be the inspirational Michael McGrath.
At the age of just 15, Michael dreamt of becoming the general manager of the Savoy Hotel in London and in 1984 was offered a place on the Savoy’s competitive Trainee Management Scheme, which he turned down. Later that year, Michael was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, the incurable muscle wasting disease, but this has not prevented him from fulfilling his goals and becoming a true inspiration to those around him.
In fact, chairman of the Virgin Group, Richard Branson, has said: “Michael is an inspiration. He has a thoroughly positive outlook for somebody facing such adversities.”
In 2004 Michael made history by becoming the only disabled person in the world to reach both the North and South Poles – a great achievement by any standard. That same year he was appointed disABILITY champion for Hilton Hotels UK and Ireland, while in 2005 he was awarded the Business Traveller of the Year Award in Dubai.
In addition to this, Michael is the co-founder and chief executive of The Muscular Help Foundation, a charity which aims to eradicate muscle disorders by raising awareness and funds as well as coordinating support and research efforts worldwide.
